Dental Hygiene is paramount. Optimal oral health and wellbeing depends on good dental hygiene with regular brushing and cleaning between teeth.
We believe that visits to a hygienist are essential to maintain a healthy mouth and prevent the development of gum disease. We also have a range of packages dedicated to oral hygiene to suit the needs of patients, designed for different ages and exact requirements.
Why is dental hygiene important?
Surprisingly more teeth are lost due to gum disease than tooth decay. A visit to the hygienist will help prevent periodontal disease, bleeding gums (gum disease), and dental decay (caries).
Our hygiene surgeries are fitted with the very latest equipment. Our fully qualified hygienist will clean and polish your teeth and offer tailored advice on how to care for your teeth and gums on a day to day basis so that it becomes part of your routine. We also offer advice for the care of your children’s teeth.
What are the benefits of good oral hygiene?
Good dental hygiene, besides keeping your mouth fresh, will prevent problems developing such as gingivitis and detect more serious periodontal problems.
Regular brushing and flossing or the use of interdental brushes will not only keep your mouth and gums healthy. Research has found that it can help prevent other serious conditions from developing.
What is a scale and polish?
A scale and polish treatment is a deeper clean than traditional brushing. It is more thorough and is designed to remove any hardened substances (calculus or tartar) attached to your teeth.
An ultrasonic scaler or hand scaler are used and can be either or a combination of the two.
It also smooths the surface of the teeth making it harder for any future build-up of debris. Afterwards, your teeth will be polished using a paste.
Can I see a hygienist without seeing a dentist first?
Yes. It is now possible to book an appointment to see our hygienist without seeing a dentist first when you feel you need advice or further help with oral hygiene.
